LOCAL Coronavirus/COVID-19 updates

BALGONIE

March 17 – The town announced that all recreation and culture facilities in town are closed until further notice. Affected facilities include the Star Dome arena, Multiplex hall, Heritage Place, the 50+ Club, the Balgonie branch of Southeast Library and the Balgonie Curling Rink. The town office is also closed to the public until further notice, though staff will remain available by phone and email. Residents who wish to make payments are asked to do so either online or by mail. Public works staff will continue to perform essential duties to maintain services such as water, sewer, road and path maintenance. Lastly the town council meeting scheduled for March 23 has been cancelled, with dates for April’s meetings to be determined.

March 15 – The Stardome’s ice plant was shut down early in light of recent ice-time cancellations, following Hockey Canada’s March 12 decision to end all sanctioned games and events under its authority. Besides local minor hockey playoffs, events impacted include daily shinny and City View Skating Club’s ice show, which was scheduled for April 4.

 

EDENWOLD

The village office was closed to the public as of March 18, with staff still available by phone (306 771 4121) or email (villageofedenwold@sasktel.net.) Tax or utility payments can still be submitted by e-transfer or the drop slot at the village office.

The Edenwold Seniors’ Centre has also been closed and all events cancelled until further notice.

 

FRANCIS

The Francis Community Arena is closed for the year, with skating and shinny events originally planned for March 10 and 12 both having been cancelled due to the outbreak.

 

MONTMARTRE

March 19 – Mayor Rob Chittenden reported that the village and RM office have been closed to the public indefinitely, effective immediately.

 

ODESSA

Per mayor Larry Lockert, a fundraiser that was planned to be held in the community hall has been cancelled, and the Odessa Dance Club has cancelled all remaining practices along with its year-end recital.

 

RM OF EDENWOLD

March 17 – Following a special meeting today, RM council is taking the step of closing the RM of Edenwold municipal office to the public. This is in order to adhere to the preventative measures requested by provincial government and health authorities.

The ‘Coffee with the Council’ event and the Division Four by-election will be postponed until further notice.

If you have an urgent request, please phone the office first by calling 306-771-2522. Councillors can be reached by phone as well. Their numbers are listed online at rmedenwold.ca. The water/sewer emergency number is: 306-791-5089. RM maintenance staff will continue to work to ensure infrastructure is maintained safely and efficiently for residents. Ratepayers can also still pay utilities, taxes and accounts receivable through the RM’s website, or through the drop box available at the RM office  at 100 Hutchence Road in Emerald Park.

 

RM OF LAJORD

The RM office and shop were closed to the public effective March 17, with staff still available by phone (306 781 2744) or email (rm128@sasktel.net). Ratepayers may use online banking, e-transfers or leave payments in the drop box located outside the office. The annual vet clinic which was scheduled for April has also been cancelled.

 

SEDLEY

The village office was closed to the public effective March 16, with bill payments still being accepted via cheque in the mail slot on the office door. Sedley Community Preschool has also announced it is closed indefinitely.

Council meetings remain open to the public, though “non-essential delegations” are being asked to refrain from attending, and urgent requests are encouraged to be submitted by phone, snail mail or email. Sedley mayor Bryan Leier told The Forum that in light of the pandemic, it’s unlikely a by-election will be held to fill the council seat that was vacated by the March 16 resignation of Cory Szczepanski.

The local rink closed for the season March 16, and all programming and meetings at the Sedley branch of Southeast Library will be suspended indefinitely after Friday, though the local post office is currently scheduled to remain open, with enhanced sanitization measures in effect.

 

TYVAN

The Tyvan Community Hall’s annual Cowboy Poetry night for 2020 – which was planned for April 4 – has been cancelled. The status of the hall’s annual general meeting, scheduled for April 30, had not been reported to The Forum as of Tuesday’s press deadline.

 

VIBANK

The village office is now closed to the public indefinitely but will remain operational, with public access being made available by phone (306-762-2130) and email (village.of.vibank@sasktel.net). The regular monthly council meeting that was scheduled for March 24 has been postponed to March 31, and is expected to be conducted remotely rather than in person at the village office.

All dance classes at Vibank Dance Expressions have also been suspended until further notice.

 

WHITE CITY

The town office was closed to the public and all events at the White City Community Centre cancelled effective March 17.

Residents who need to make payments can do so via online banking or by dropping a cheque in the mail slot at the town office. The council decision item related to council procedures has been postponed until further notice. And any public interaction with town council and administration will be limited to phone or email.

Public works staff will still be performing duties to ensure that residents have access to essential municipal services such as water and sewer.
